BCIN stands for Building Code Identification Number.
A BCIN license requires a set of qualifications from building officials, inspectors, registered code agents, septic installers and designers who provide construction planning or design services.
The BCIN number is a registration number provided by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) for either an individual designer and/or a design firm within Ontario after the individual has completed training, testing and ministry examinations.
A BCIN home designer can design, draft plans and stamp drawings that will be readily available for a client to apply for building permits for a project within Ontario, including Windsor-Essex County. At Lynnridge Design Inc., we are qualified to design a one-storey residential house and up to three storeys, with a building area of 600 square meters (6458 square feet) or less, and any of their accessory buildings such as a laneway home, garden suite or garage. We also offer services with any type of renovation, addition, or conversions such as load-bearing wall removal or egress entrance/exit.
The BCIN designer must be formally registered with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH). The BCIN designer must stay current with payments for annual registration fees and required insurance fees for Design Firms.
BCIN is enforced in Ontario by Bill 124 as a requirement from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs & Housing. Its purpose is to protect the public and uphold safe building standards within the construction industry.
We would choose to hire a BCIN designer near me based on their ability to help you with nearly any project you are likely to have. There are some size and height limitations for projects that a BCIN Designer can sign-off on, but for most residential and small commercial projects, you don't need an Architect.
So it's up to you if you think you need an Architect for your project. And for many large-scale projects, an Architect is probably the right choice. But for your average home or office project, a BCIN Designer can provide all the skills and expertise you need at a much more affordable price!
